Laykhaus Impact report

A message from the founders

Creating Environments

Our story is deeply intertwined with the story of our marine environments. We cherish the opportunity to connect with our customers and hear their personal experiences of finding tranquility, connection, and inspiration on the shores of our planets beautiful lakes. These conversations reinforce our belief in the vital importance of these ecosystems and their profound impact on our collective well-being.

Recognizing the threats facing our lakes and oceans, we are committed to taking action. Through our 5% promise, we donate a portion of our proceeds to support impactful marine programs. These programs, led by dedicated organizations and individuals, are making a tangible difference in protecting and restoring our marine environments. We believe in the power of collaboration and actively seek partnerships to amplify our impact.

Our responsibility extends beyond the materials we use in our products. We are committed to minimizing our environmental footprint and inspiring others to join us in safeguarding the health of our precious aquatic ecosystems. We envision a future where lakes and oceans thrive, ensuring that their beauty and tranquility can be enjoyed for generations to come.

We extend a special thanks to everyone who creates environments with our products and to all those who have engaged with us on our
journey so far.

Canadian projects

Canada is our home, and it also has one fifth of the world’s fresh water.
We are engaging with leaders in the marine conservation space to make a direct impact on Canadian marine eco-systems. Supporting charities and working with like-minded organizations has enabled us to expand our impact.

Marine Protected Areas

Laykhaus supports the creation of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) to conserve vital habitats, protect ocean life, and promote sustainable coastal communities.

Blue Friday

Blue Friday is a B.C. initiative that supports ocean conservation instead of Black Friday consumerism. Funds raised helped Surfrider replace Tofino's First Street Dock, reducing EPS foam pollution!

Lonesome Lake

BC parks raised enough money to purchase this ecologically significant lake in Bella Coola, BC which forms part of an important migratory corridor for salmon and grizzly bears.

Shoreline Cleanup

Laykhaus and Goldilocks Goods teamed up to clean 4km of shoreline at Gordon's Beach in Sooke, BC. Together with 16 volunteers, we removed 5 Bags of trash including plastic, fishing gear, and more!

Columbia Basin Water Hub

Water data monitoring projects helps support data-driven decision making in the columbia basin, building a holistic and transparent approach to water management.

Lake Blitz Program

Laykhaus was proud to sponsor the National Lake Blitz Photo Challenge with Living Lakes Canada. This vital initiative empowers volunteers across Canada to monitor the health of their local lakes, contributing valuable data and imagery to understand the impacts of climate change, pollution, and invasive species.

Global Impact

In May, 2021 Laykhaus teamed up with 10 other leading businesses across the globe in
partnership with Qualicum based charity SeaLegacy, to address some of the big changes that
can be made to move retailers towards a blue economy, in helping form The Good Ocean.

Through our participation in SeaLegacy’s Good Ocean, Laykhaus helped to shape this brand new community of businesses committed to doing what they can to create healthy and abundant oceans.

Together, with other members of The Good Ocean and the wider network of SeaLegacy
supporters called The Tide, Laykhaus helped provide impact grants for experts and innovators, leading on-the-ground projects that conserve our oceans, while building a more equitable planet for all.

Founded by some of the world’s leading conservation photographers Paul Nicklen and Cristina Mittermeier, who both call British Columbia home, SeaLegacy is a global network of storytellers who use their art and expertise in media and communications to fuel a global community focused on restoring the ocean’s health and abundance. The Good Ocean believes it is a shared responsibility to protect the welfare of this important ecosystem and that a more ethical approach to business is one way to shape what the new-normal looks like for businesses, consumers, and most critically, our oceans.

“I am honored they have chosen to align with SeaLegacy, and with each other, as we take steps towards systemic change in our consumer culture”

Project Impact

Sealegacy's work helped with the establishment of new Marine Protected Areas in the Eastern Tropical Pacific. The Cordillera de Coiba marine protected area is a key migratory route for wildlife and is 68,000km2.
